Gosatomnadzor held a working meeting with the Ambassador of Austria

On March 6, 2024 Gosatomnadzor hosted a working meeting of the Department's executives with Mr. Ronald Helmut Sturm, Charge d'Affaires of the Republic of Austria in the Republic of Belarus. The event was conducted at the request of the Austrian side.

In the course of the working meeting the issues of safety of the Belarusian NPP, consequences of the Chernobyl NPP accident, safety and operation of the nuclear legacy facility – Polesie State Radiation-Ecological Reserve, results of the IAEA review missions, peer review within the framework of stress tests of the Belarusian NPP carried out in the Republic of Belarus as well as implementation of practical measures based on the results of the abovementioned missions were addressed.

Ms. Olga Lugovskaya, Head of Gosatomnadzor, emphasized that the Department as a regulatory body in the field of nuclear and radiation safety remains open to all partners who are interested in cooperating with us. She pointed out the importance of information exchange in bilateral and multilateral formats, which contributes to overall safety enhancement and is an integral part of the global nuclear safety regime.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sturm proposed to strengthen activities within the framework of the bilateral Belarusian – Austrian cooperation in the sphere of information exchange on the state of nuclear and radiation safety and to arrange a bilateral meeting in the current year in conjunction with the participation of the Belarusian delegation in the international events held at the IAEA headquarters.
