International Conference on A Decade of Progress After Fukushima-Daiichi: Building on the Lessons Learned to Further Strengthen Nuclear Safety (day 3, announcement)

At the headquarters of the International Atomic Energy Agency (Vienna, Austria), the International Conference on A Decade of Progress After Fukushima-Daiichi: Building on the Lessons Learned to Further Strengthen Nuclear Safety continues its work. Head of Gosatomnadzor Olga Lugovskaya is taking part in the event.

The third day of the conference includes a plenary session on «Recovering from a Nuclear Emergency», a panel discussion on «International Cooperation», during which Olga Lugovskaya is scheduled to speak on the experience of the Republic of Belarus in international cooperation on nuclear and radiation safety, taking into account our country's unique path from overcoming the consequences of a major radiation accident to the decision to develop its first nuclear power program and the subsequent formation of a nuclear and radiation safety infrastructure based on international standards. Day three will continue with an event on nuclear safeguards at Fukushima Daiichi, a special session of the IAEA Director General on Safety Related Aspects of Handling ALPS Treated Waters at the Fukushima Daiichi NPP, and conclude with a youth panel discussion on «Youth and the Nuclear Industry».

 

The purpose of the conference is to review lessons learned, share experiences, results, and achievements resulting from actions taken by the national, regional, and international communities following the Fukushima Daiichi accident, and identify ways to further strengthening of nuclear safety. The event will last until November 12, 2021.
