Specialists of Gosatomnadzor and CNRS participated in the fellowship at Rostechnadzor

From 18 to 22 November 2024, employees of Gosatomnadzor and CNRS took part in the fellowship on the topic “Practice of supervisory activities for the construction of a radioactive waste storage (disposal) facility at the stages of development of pre-design documentation, siting, design and construction” on the basis of the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service of Russia (Rostechnadzor).

During the fellowship, employees of Gosatomnadzor and CNRS discussed with representatives of the central office and Ural Interregional Territorial Department of Rostechnadzor the issues of regulatory requirements at various stages of the life cycle of a radioactive waste disposal facility (hereinafter - RWDF), licensing of the stages of construction and commissioning of RWDFs, and inspection activities.

As a part of the fellowship a meeting with the senior management of the National Operator for Radioactive Waste Management (NO RAW, an enterprise of Rosatom State Corporation) took place in Ekaterinburg and a visit to the construction site of the final isolation facility for radioactive waste in Ozyorsk (Chelyabinsk Oblast) was arranged. Russian colleagues demonstrated the engineering infrastructure and radioactive waste disposal modules under the construction. Special clarifications regarding the issues of compliance with legislative requirements during construction and commissioning of the RWDF were provided as well.
