Gosatomnadzor took part in the meeting of the Expert Group No. 3 of the Basic Organization of the CIS Member States

On October 24, representatives of Gosatomnadzor participated in the meeting of the Expert Group No. 3 of the Basic Organization of the CIS Member States on Spent Nuclear Fuel, Radioactive Waste and Decommissioning of Nuclear and Radiation Hazardous Facilities.

From the Belarusian side, the event was also attended by representatives of state bodies and organizations such as: the Ministry of Energy, SPA “Belenergo”, RUE “Belarusian Organization for Radioactive Waste Management”, State Scientific Institution “The Joint Institute for Power and Nuclear Research – Sosny” and the Scientific and Technical Centre for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (CNRS).

The event was held in digital format. Meeting was devoted to the consideration of the draft Model Law of the CIS Member States “On Radioactive Waste Management”.

During the discussion of the Draft Law the advisability of its approval was confirmed, and some provisions were considered taking into account the CIS member states’ experience in introducing regulation in the field of radioactive waste management, including financial support and other issues.

Adoption of this Draft Law by the Interparliamentary Assembly of Member Nations of the Commonwealth of Independent States (IPA CIS) will facilitate the CIS member states in improving legislation in the field of safe radioactive waste management.

Participants of the event confirmed the validity of the mentioned Model Law, as well as identified prospective directions of further work on the mentioned document.
