Gosatomnadzor representatives took part in the roundtable meeting

On July 16, 2024 Gosatomnadzor representatives Ms. Olga Lugovskaya, Ms. Larisa Basalay and Ms. Daria Karvetskaya attended the round table discussion on the improvement of social protection measures for those involved in the elimination of the consequences of the Chernobyl NPP accident.

The event was initiated by the Standing Committees of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly on Environment and Management of Natural Resources and on Labor and Social Affairs.

The round table was attended by the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection Mr.Valery Kovalkov, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs, member of the Council of the House of Representatives Ms. Irina Kostevich, representatives of the Belarusian Republican Public Association of Liquidators and Disabled Persons of the Chernobyl Disaster “Chernobyl Veterans”, the Republican Center for Health Improvement and Sanatorium-Resort Treatment of the Population, the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Radiation Medicine and Human Ecology, as well as employees of Gomel and Mogilev Regional Executive Committees.

Ms. Zhanna Chernyavskaya, Chairperson of the Standing Commission on Environment and Management of Natural Resources, officially opened the meeting. She emphasized that the residents of the contaminated territories still require all-round support.

During the discussion, the attendees agreed that it is essential to find further ways to provide social protection to the Chernobyl liquidators and those affected by the consequences of the Chernobyl NPP accident.

Dialogue resulted in a proposal to establish an interdepartmental working group to analyze practice of applying the current legislation on social protection of this group of citizens and develop measures to improve it.
