Gosatomnadzor took part in a meeting at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus on preparation of Union Programs

On February 1, 2024, representatives of Gosatomnadzor under the leadership of Ms. Olga Lugovskaya, Head of the Department, participated in a meeting with officials of ministries and departments of the Republic of Belarus – state contracting authorities of programs and activities of the Union State.

The meeting was organized by the Standing Committee of the Union State and was held on the basis of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) of Belarus.

During the meeting reports of representatives of the state customers of the Union State programs and activities – institutes of the NAS of Belarus, Ministry of Culture and Ministry for Emergency Situations (Gosatomnadzor) on the implementation of existing programs and scheduled future projects were presented.

Ms. Olga Lugovskaya reported on the ongoing activities to prepare joint proposals on the “Program of Joint Activities of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation within the Framework of the Union State to Overcome the Consequences of the Chernobyl NPP Accident”. The program aimed to establish conditions for the development of social and economic potential of the radioactively contaminated regions of Belarus and Russia and to enhance the life quality of the citizens affected by radiation as a result of the Chernobyl catastrophe. Among the state contracting authorities on behalf of the Republic of Belarus are Gosatomnadzor, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and on behalf of the Russian Federation –Ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence, Emergency Situations and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters.

Along with the Chernobyl Program, Gosatomnadzor is working on joint proposals with Belarusian and Russian stakeholders on the Union programs, the fulfillment of which is planned for 2025:

“Improving Approaches to Emergency Preparedness, Emergency Response in the Event of a Nuclear and (or) Radiation Accident”;

“Ensuring safety in Radioactive Waste Management”;

“Establishment of a Complex for Production and Certification of Detection Equipment with Specified Parameters”.
