Gosatomnadzor took part in the meeting of Expert Group No. 3 of the Basic Organization of CIS Member States on SNF, RW and Decommissioning of Nuclear and Radiation Hazardous Facilities

On February 9, 2024, in Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan, a meeting of Expert Group No. 3 “Issues of Unification and Harmonization of Documents in the Field of Regulatory, Legal and Technical Regulation” of the Basic Organization of the CIS Member States on Management of Spent Nuclear Fuel, Radioactive Waste and Decommissioning of Nuclear and Radiation Hazardous Facilities was held.

The meeting was devoted to the consideration of the draft Model Law of the CIS Member States “On Radioactive Waste Management” and proposals of experts of the CIS member states on its finalization.

Draft of the document was developed by the Federal Budgetary Institution “Scientific and Technical Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety” (FBI “STC NRS”) to create legal and regulatory basis for insuring safety, economic feasibility and public acceptability of activities in the field of RW management in the CIS member states.

Gosatomnadzor submitted the report on legal basis and regulatory principles improvement and made proposals on filling the draft Model Law “On Radioactive Waste Managment” taking into account those related to nuclear legacy facilities.
