Gosatomnadzor continues close cooperation with the IAEA on the preparation and implementation of international technical assistance projects

Taking into account the implementation of the first nuclear energy program in our country and the formation of an appropriate regulatory infrastructure based on the safety standards of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Gosatomnadzor has been cooperating for many years with the Agency on the preparation and implementation of international technical assistance projects aimed at supporting the Belarusian regulatory body in the field of nuclear and radiation safety. The activities of such projects are planned on the basis of current needs and are updated annually at coordination meetings at the IAEA. As a general rule, during such events the whole range of the Agency's international technical assistance projects for the Republic of Belarus is discussed, and therefore representatives of all interested government bodies are included in the Belarusian delegations, including the 2022 meeting.

From November 28 to December 2, a regular coordination meeting was held at the IAEA Headquarters in Vienna to discuss international technical assistance projects of the IAEA for the Republic of Belarus, in which Gosatomnadzor took part as a member of the Belarusian delegation.

The issues of implementation of the current IAEA technical assistance project “Improving the Competence of the Regulatory Body and its Technical Support System at the Stage of Nuclear Power Plant Commissioning and Operation” were discussed at the event. The terms, format and the responsible for the implementation of the project activities have been clarified. Agreements were reached on further cooperation with the IAEA within the framework of project activities. During the discussion, the issues of the implementation of IAEA technical assistance projects for a new project cycle, which is scheduled to begin in 2024, were also considered.
