At the opening meeting, the Head of Gosatomnadzor Olga Lugovskaya emphasized that the National Action Plan 2019 was sent to the Belarusian NPP in the form of a prescription, its implementation is supervised both by the regulatory body (Gosatomnadzor) and at the Governmental level. By now, Gosatomnadzor is satisfied with the progress of its implementation.

Chief Engineer of the Belarusian NPP Anatoly Bondar, recalled that the first stage of the Peer Review held in February 2021 showed good results on 7 priority issues that needed to be analyzed before the commissioning of power unit 1 and assured that the plant had taken everything to ensure an intensive, fruitful and constructive work in the second phase of the peer review

The Team Leader Petteri Tiippana congratulated the Belarusian NPP and Gosatomnadzor on the issuance of the license for the operation of power unit 1 (issued in June 2021), thanked the Belarusian side, the European Commission and ENSREG for the preparatory work done, due to which the current visit has taken place and noted that peer reviews of this kind and the interaction of the participants involved make an effective contribution to the long-term improvement of NPP’s safety.

Stress tests of the Belarusian NPP were carried out in 2016-2018 according to the procedure of the European Union.

The aim was to assess the plant's ability to withstand external adverse natural influences and their combination. The stress tests included three stages: self-assessment of the Belarusian NPP, national assessment and ENSREG Peer Review.

The National Action Plan was formed by Gosatomnadzor together with the interested parties in 2019, its activities are aimed at long-term enhancement of the safety margins of the Belarusian NPP.

In 2020, Belarus expressed its willingness to conduct ENSREG Peer Review of the National Action Plan. The preliminary report of ENSREG on the results of the first stage of the Peer review is posted on the Internet resources of ENSREG and Gosatomnadzor. The work on the final version of the report will be completed after a visit to the site of the Belarusian NPP.
