The results of the project on journalists’ awareness-raising on the subject of nuclear and radiation safety were summed up at the working meeting in Gosatomnadzor.

The working meeting within the project on journalists’ awareness-raising on the subject of nuclear and radiation safety was held in Gosatomnadzor on July 13, 2017.

The journalists of Belarusian republican, regional and district media participated in the project. The active phase of its realization was for the period from November 2015 to July 2016, when more than 20 materials were prepared and sent out on different issues that related to nuclear and radiation safety in the format “simply about complex”. In its turn, Gosatomnadzor was open for counter-questions and specifications from participants. The purpose of the project was to improve the quality of professional coverage and report to the media, and through them to people, about the core of regulatory activities on nuclear and radiation safety.

 

During the working meeting in Gosatomnadzor, the participants discussed the perspectives of further common activity on public awareness-raising, came to know about the status and important ongoing activities on the development of nuclear and radiation safety system of the Republic of Belarus in the context of implementation of the first country’s nuclear power program, got acquainted with the updated group membership of Gosatomnadzor speakers and asked them questions that interested the media target audience. 

The journalists were interested in the implementation of IAEA mission recommendations on the integrated review of the regulatory infrastructure in the Republic of Belarus (IRRS, October 2016) in terms of cooperation with the public, including the possibility of holding public discussions on important decisions of the regulatory body.

The media representatives got an explanation about issues of the regulatory body role in delivering of nuclear fuel and ensuring of nuclear and radiation safety during the Belarusian NPP construction including the establishment of crisis management centers, etc.  

The management and a group of speakers of Gosatomnadzor, as well as journalists that participated in the working meeting, expressed mutual readiness to continue the cooperation on the permanent basis and to practice similar working meetings for timely and comprehensive coverage of the regulatory activity on nuclear and radiation safety.
