The Review of the State of Nuclear and Radiation Safety in the Republic of Belarus in 2016 is prepared.

Within the framework of the planned information activities of the regulatory body in the field of nuclear and radiation safety –  the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus – Gosatomnadzor using materials from the Ministry of Emergency Situations departments, as well as the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus (The Center of Hydrometeorology, Radioactive Contamination Control and Environmental Monitoring of the Republic of Belarus), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (the Joint Institute for Energy and Nuclear Research – “Sosny”) prepared and presents the Review of the State of Nuclear and Radiation Safety in the Republic of Belarus in 2016. The document is available for download on the main page of the Gosatomnadzor Internet site www.gosatomnadzor.gov.by and in the section “Knowledge for everyone. Library”.

The review is intended for representatives of the professional community who operate nuclear installations and ionizing radiation sources or prepare for it; specialists involved in ensuring nuclear and radiation safety (personnel training, development and harmonization of regulatory legal acts in the relevant field, etc.); population and public representatives (in the Republic of Belarus and abroad) interested in nuclear and radiation safety in Belarus.

The publication contains information on the main arrangements, events and measures in the field of regulation and provision of nuclear and radiation safety in the Republic of Belarus in 2016, which are aimed at increasing the level of safety in using ionizing radiation sources and nuclear facilities; ensuring radiation safety for those territories of the republic affected by the Chernobyl disaster; the functioning of the radiation monitoring system. A significant part of the materials is devoted to ensuring safety during the construction of the Belarusian NPP (including supervision over the construction of the Belarusian NPP, including in the permanent supervision mode, for the manufacture and acceptance of equipment, monitoring and assessment of the radiation impact on the environment, etc.).

This is the third publication of this format (previously published Reviews for 2014 and 2015). Department for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of the Ministry for Emergency Situations of the Republic of Belarus will continue publication of such materials on a continious basis for informing all interested parties on the state of nuclear and radiation safety in the Republic of Belarus.
